The day after Christmas he asked me where his crazy dough was. When I asked him what he was talking about he said, "You know - that stuff in the egg." He was talking about Silly Putty!
Just tonight he asked me if owls were awake at night and slept during the day. I told him yes that was true and that was called being nocturnal. His comment? Just like Santa!
I love the connections his brain makes - they crack me up!

Isn't that the same thing?
The kids and I had a little picnic this evening just to get out of the house. (We didn't go very far. We have a cement picnic table in our backyard.)
After we ate, the kids wanted s'mores. I got everything out to make them and Garrett told me that he just wanted chocolate. I said ok and handed him his piece of chocolate instead of getting it ready to microwave. (Yes, I said microwave. We don't have fires around here. We do it the quick and easy way.)
Meagan got out the marshmallows and he told her he wanted one. She gave him one and he got ready to go back outside. That's when he asked for his crackers.
When I asked him what crackers he was talking about, he told me the ones like Meagan got.
Let me think about this - I thought you didn't want a s'more.
His answer? I want all of the parts. I just didn't want it hot.
Why didn't you just say so son?

Do you think she gets it from me?
There's just no denying that she's mine. You want proof?
This exchange proves it:
Me: Meagan, will you please come here?
Meagan: sighing . . . Yes, mom?
Me: Will you please go check the mail for me?
Meagan: sighing . . . I guess (slipping on my shoes) I just wish that was really a question that I could answer.
She then heads out the door.
Total smarta**.
She's mine all right.

Random Thoughts
I always forget how tiring the first few weeks of school are until your body gets used to getting up early and then doing something other than laying around reading and watching T.V.!
I don't even want to think about how it will be once Meagan starts playing kickball and Garrett starts with soccer, and we start tutoring after school and I start coaching DI. My head hurts just thinking about it. If if would only cool off a little, life would be so much easier. It was over 100 degrees here the last two or three days!
We finally got a new kinder teacher so Garrett is now in a class with only 21 other kids. He told me today that this (holding up his hand in the stop sign) was a period. I asked him when you use a period and he said during Writer's Workshop. Not bad for the second week of kinder I say!
A funny while I'm thinking/writing about Garrett. After the first day of school Jimmy asked him how it went and if he learned anything. His response was Yep, I learned I still can't read. (said in an Eyore voice) I about died laughing when Jimmy told me that!
I am working on a few new posts. One is about testing and another is on some new reading lessons that I am using this year. Be on the lookout for them!
Just for fun I thought I would post some older pictures.
This is the picture of a mural that my friend Elaine painted for me. The parents and kids LOVED it. (The wall is now painted a deep blue color.)

Santa always visits our school on the last day before winter break. All of the kids go up on stage and get a candy cane from him. We have a sing-along in the cafeteria either before or after Santa visits.
This is Garrett. This picture was taken at Jimmy's surprise 30th birthday party. Garrett is a little over 2. He thinks he is so cool talking into, my niece's phone and wearing her sunglasses!

More funnies by Garrett

Today Garrett was upset about not getting to go to Grandma's house with Meagan. (More about what she was doing there later.) So, to get him to calm down, I told him I had a surprise for him at home. And, the cool thing is, I actually did have a surprise for him!
I pick up random things and store them away for moments like these.

Anyway, the surprise was a new pack of water paints. Garrett wanted to know what they were. I told him they were paints and that I would be right back. I walked into the kitchen to get a small bowl of water and a paper towel for him. As I was coming back to the dining room he calls, "Hey Mom! How do you get these paints to wake up?" I thought it was hilarious! I explained to him that you had to dab them with water to get them to "wake up."
He then went on to tell me that he didn't need the white woken up because he only had white paper to paint on and you wouldn't be able to see it anyway. I thought that this was pretty smart thinking for a five year old!
That is his masterpiece at the top of the entry!

Oh my God! I am totally turning into my Dad!
I just told Garrett, "If you are going to cry, I will give you something to cry about."
Other words (that belong to my father) recently out of my mouth:
"Where did you get your driver's license?? A Cracker Jacks box??? (said to a person who pulled out in front of me and then proceeded to drive 15 miles an hour - fifteen.)
I guess I'm okay unless I utter his favorite phrase of all time:
"I'm as serious as a heart attack."

Out of the Mouths of Babes
While driving home from Garrett's basketball game today we decided to stop and have breakfast. We were heading to a local bakery/mexican food resturant when the topic of chocolate covered donuts was brought up. Meagan asked if she could have a donut for her snack this afternoon. Her dad told her that if she ate the spinich we were having for lunch she could have whatever she wanted for a snack. Garrett made some comment about spinich to which Meagan replied, "You don't even know what spinich is Garrett." He comes back with, "Yes, I do! Grass!" All I could do was laugh!
